Couples who are trying to conceive may find that they are having difficulty successfully conceiving a child for a variety of reasons. It may be, for example, that the man has an issue with his sperm count or with sperm motility. It may be that the woman has a problem with her ovarian reserve. Having said all of that, very often a couple’s problems with conception have less to do with a physical or biological problem than they may have, and simply with more mundane and often less obvious problems, such as gravity.
You see, many couples who are trying to conceive don’t stop to think exactly about the process that takes place, after intercourse, in a woman’s body. For the sperm to have the best chance of fertilizing an egg, it has to be able to make it through the generally hostile and acidic environment of the vagina, up to the cervix, where cervical mucus will help it along on its journey. In some case, it isn’t that the man’s sperm have anything wrong with them, but rather that they just aren’t making it all the way to the cervical mucus before gravity pulls them back into the hostile environment of the vagina.
The solution to this sort of problem is for a woman to use gravity to her advantage after intercourse. Laying on the bed, often with a pillow underneath the pelvis, the woman can help the sperm to pool against her cervix, putting it where it needs to be. Yet, using a regular pillow for this can be uncomfortable, and can cause you to have to change pillow cases very frequently. A fertility pillow is a pillow specifically designed to help a woman who is trying to become pregnant. These pillows generally have a water resistant material that will allow you to wipe away stains without getting the inside wet, plus a removable cover that can then be washed. As you can see, a fertility pillow is an excellent tool to help with conception.
