There is only one way to choose the sex of your baby that is almost completely effective. If you are having a procedure such as In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) or Intrauterine Insemination (IUI), then it may be possible that your health care provider can separate the sperm that would produce male babies from the sperm that would produce female babies. However, this is not always possible, and is very often an extra service that the fertility specialist may offer at an additional cost. Having said all of that, there are things that you can do to try to choose the sex of your baby without these expensive procedures.
To choose the sex of your baby, you need to understand some things about what exactly it is that determines gender. The male sperm determines what gender the baby will be. There are sperm that will produce boys, and there are sperm that will produce girls. The sperm that produce boys are “stronger”, and tend to swim faster and get to the egg first. The sperm that produce girls live longer than the sperm that produce boys, but will swim slower than the sperm that will produce boys.
Knowing this, you can try to time intercourse in relation to ovulation to help choose the sex of your baby. If you want to have a girl, you should have intercourse a few days before you ovulate. This will give the sperm that produce boys time to die off, allowing the sperm that produce girls to have a chance to fertilize the egg. Conversely, if you want a boy, you should have sex as close to ovulation as possible. These methods, along with other helpful advice and techniques, are all contained in the Shettles Method of baby gender selection.
There are, of course, old wives tales and rumors about how to choose the sex of your baby. For example, One tip suggests that having sex with the woman on top will help you to get pregnant with a girl. Another says that rear-entry sex will produce a boy. While none of these methods is scientifically proven, some couples may wish to try them out anyways.
