Skin problems, from acne to stretch marks, are a common and unfortunate side effect of pregnancy. Compounding this problem is the fact that many skin care products have either been demonstrated to be unsafe during pregnancy, or have not been proven to be safe to use during pregnancy. For example, while it is true that over-the-counter skin medications that contain benzoyl peroxide have been tested and proved to be safe during pregnant, there are some medications that may not be safe for you to use during pregnancy. These skin medications include ones that contain Tetracycline, Salicyclic Acid (a common ingredient in over-the-counter acne treatments), Tretinon (sold under the brand name Retin-A), and Isotrentinoin (sold under the brand name Accutane). For this reason, many women have turned to natural skin care products to use during pregnancy.
There are a variety of natural skin care products that you can use during pregnancy. Some natural skin care products may use borage oil, for example. Borage oil is an anti-inflammatory that helps to regenerate skin as well. Olive oil is a common moisturizing natural skin care product. Rose hip seed oil can help with acne scarring and stretch marks. Essential oils, like lavender, mandarin, and lemon can help your skin during pregnancy as well, by toning the skin, and helping to relieve tension. Calendula is another common ingredient that you will find in natural skin care products. Calendula can help prevent scarring as well, and can help to reduce itching that often accompanies pregnancy. Cucumber works in a similar way to help reduce itching. Witch hazel, which is especially useful for hemorrhoids, can also help with itching during pregnancy.
These natural skin care products may take any number of forms. There are massage oils, for example, that you can use during pregnancy. There are a variety of lotions and creams, as well. Many of these lotions and creams are especially designed to help with stretch marks. There are even body sprays that can be used during pregnancy that can help to rejuvenate and treat your skin.
