Are There Herbs That Can Help With My Baby’s Digestion During Breastfeeding?

While you are breastfeeding, it is important to realize exactly what is occurring in your baby’s digestive tract. During those first months of life, your baby’s digestive tract is growing and developing, and starting to function the way that it needs to in order to process the nutrients that you are providing through your breast milk. It is important, however, to realize also that the things that you take into your body will, in many cases, be passed along to your baby through your breast milk. The things that you eat during breastfeeding can affect your baby’s digestion in a positive way or in a negative way. For the breastfeeding mother, it is important to be diligent about what is going into her body, to make sure that her baby is getting what he or she needs. There are even herbal supplements that a mother can take during breastfeeding to help with her baby’s digestion.

The sorts of herbs that can help with a baby’s digestion during breastfeeding are herbs that can, very often, help both mother and baby. For example, the herb aniseed can help with digestion, but also help with the production of milk for the nursing mother. Caraway is another herb that has this same sort of beneficial effect for both mother and baby. There are other herbs, as well, such as alfalfa and fennel, which may be able to help the breastfeeding mother and her baby’s digestion. These sorts of herbs are available as herbal supplements, but they are also available as herbal teas. In fact, a mother could certainly make her own herbal tea with aniseed and caraway if she wished.

There are other things that you can do to help your baby’s digestion during breastfeeding, as well. Some mothers have noticed, for example, that their baby is more likely to get gas when the mother eats spicy foods. There are also other types of supplements, such as probiotics, that are designed either for the mother or for the baby to use to help with digestion during breastfeeding.
