Getting Comfortable During The Third Trimester

Let’s face it: pregnancy can be an extremely uncomfortable time in a woman’s life. Whether it is the aches and pains of early pregnancy, such as morning sickness and sensitive breasts, or whether it is the more extreme discomforts that occur during the third trimester of pregnancy, it can be difficult to get comfortable. The good news for women in that uncomfortable third trimester is that there are things that you can do in order to relax, pamper yourself a bit, and get comfortable.

One of the best things that you can do to get comfortable during the third trimester is, simply, to get off your feet. The extra baby weight that you are carrying can cause all sorts of strains on your muscles, your joints, your ankles, and your feet. Taking fifteen minutes or so several times a day to just put your feet up will go a long way toward helping you get comfortable during the third trimester. While it may not be practical for everyone, if you can soak your feet for a few minutes a couple of times a day, you will also see a reduction in discomfort. If possible, you might consider using a herbal foot bath, which will contain herbs like lavender or chamomile that are designed not only to help your feet feel better, but to help you relax and to relieve overall stress.

There are other things you can do to get comfortable during the third trimester. A low-impact exercise routine, for example, can help to keep your ligaments and joints in shape. If you are experiencing breast pain or tenderness, you might consider a breast compress. Certainly, you will probably want to use one after your baby is born, but many women also use breast compresses during the third trimester to get comfortable. Breast compresses come in a variety of different types, from gel-pack versions to herbal breast compresses that use natural ingredients like cabbage or black tea leaves, along with herbs, to soothe your sore breasts.
