Are Some Shampoos Dangerous For My Baby?

The fact of the matter is that many products that we use on a daily basis may have ingredients that really are not the best for us. Whether it is things like pesticides, or whether it is ingredients that we just don’t know that much about in terms of the possibility of harmful effects, many products have some ingredients in them that have the potential to cause a problem. This is no less true when it comes to shampoo than it is with any other sort of a product.

Having said that, it would probably be an overstatement to say that some shampoos are dangerous for your baby. This doesn’t mean that every shampoo is all right to use for your baby, or that there are not shampoos that can be harmful on a small scale to your baby. For example, some shampoos may contain pesticides, or have been exposed to toxic chemicals or fertilizers. Some shampoos may contain medications that may or may not be beneficial to your baby, and some of which will have a variety of side effects.

Even shampoos that are designed with babies in mind sometimes have ingredients that may not be the best for your baby. For example, some shampoos that are known as “tear free” may contain a special ingredient that helps keep babies from crying when shampoo gets into their eyes. Very often, the ingredient is an analgesic – a type of medicine that is used to numb the pain centers. Shampoos that claim to be “tear free” will typically use this type of ingredient. Shampoos that don’t claim to be tear free will usually not have an analgesic. An all-natural baby shampoo will generally not have an analgesic, as well.

There are all-natural shampoos available that should generally be considered less dangerous for your baby. These shampoos avoid many of the chemicals that make other shampoos problematic. In addition, herbal shampoos will generally have some additional natural ingredients to help clean and soothe your baby at bath time. For parents who are concerned about potentially dangerous shampoos, an all natural shampoo is probably the way to go.
