Baby Milestones From Seven Months To One Year

Share |

By now, baby is starting to scoot around on the floor, possibly even to crawl. Watch out. Pretty soon that baby that would stay put wherever you set her down is going to be mobile. Before you know it, she’ll be off to the races, and you’ll be doing all you can just to keep up with her. Hang in there. It won’t be long before she’s walking, talking, and moving past the baby stages. Enjoy them while they’re here. Here are some of the milestones you can expect from baby between seven months and one year of age:

  • At seven months, your baby will likely start scooting along the floor or crawling, if she’s not already doing so. She will also learn the fine art of grabbing things and pulling them towards herself, so watch what you leave out. She still won’t have figured out that some things really shouldn’t go in the mouth. If you’re lucky, she might even start waving bye bye, though, truth be told, she’s just as likely to start experiencing separation anxiety.
  • At eight months old, she will recognize her parents as dada and mama, or some similar endearing term. And once she discovers how it melts your heart to hear her call you that, watch out. She will use it to her advantage. She’ll probably start crawling if she hasn’t already, and she’ll pass objects between her hands. And hiding things won’t be so easy anymore, as she’s likely to start searching for things she wants if she doesn’t see them.
  • At nine months, she’ll start her career as a professional drummer. Well, maybe not, but she will start banging things together. She’ll still speak in jabbering, but it will begin to sound more and more like she is trying to make words (which is exactly what she’s starting to try to do). She will probably master a sippy cup and the fine art of eating finger foods at this age, too.
  • At ten months, she is likely to start standing up, with a little help from whatever is close enough to grab onto. She also might start putting objects into containers, though whether this can be molded into picking up her toys remains to be seen. She’ll also start pointing and using gestures to show what she wants.
  • At eleven months, she’ll start to cruise around the living room, though she’ll be clinging tight to the furniture. She’ll also start to understand the word “no”, though she might not admit it.
  • At one year, you start to see all kinds of surprises from baby. These are the days of first words, first steps, and, of course, her first all important taste of birthday cake. Of course, she might be a little confused about whether to eat it or wear it, but she’ll figure it out by the 7th or 8th birthday.
