Bathing Baby – Tips & Advice

Bathing baby can be an interesting experience. On the one hand, parents (especially new parents) are often concerned about how delicate their little one is, and hate to see their baby exhibit any frustration whatsoever. Adding to this is the fact that some babies really enjoy bathing, where bathing baby for other babies can be traumatic. There are a few tips & advice, however, that other parents have provided that can make bathing baby easier.

The first thing to keep in mind is that you need to understand what it is that your baby needs and wants. If your baby is one of those that enjoys bathing, you can do it every day and make it a part of your regular routine. If your baby doesn’t particularly like bathing, remember that it isn’t necessary for you to bathe her every day. As long as you keep your baby’s diaper area clean, and as long as you clean after she eats or after she spits up, she will be clean enough that she only has to bathe every two or three days.

There are other tips that you can keep in mind when bathing baby, including:

- Try singing to your baby while he is in the tub. If he is extremely upset, you can also try to rub his belly in order to calm him down.

- Before you start bathing baby, be certain that you have all of the supplies that you need close by. This includes a clean diaper, a bath towel, a washcloth, and anything else you might need to use during or right after the bath.

- This should go without saying, but it is important that you don’t leave your baby alone when bathing. Let the phone ring, turn off the stove before you start the bath, and make sure that if you must leave the room that you take baby out of the bath.

- Use only the amount of water that is necessary. Usually a few inches of water is plenty for bathing baby.

- Test the water’s temperature before bathing baby. Too hot can burn, and too cold can make for a miserable baby.

- Unscented gentle soaps and shampoos are best, and are best used sparingly when bathing baby.

None of these tips or advice guarantee that you will have a successful bath time with baby, but then again you may find that they work well for you.
