Can Acupressure Help Me With Morning Sickness?

The most frustrating thing about morning sickness, for many women who are pregnant, is the fact that there are so very few anti-nausea medications that have been tested and proven to pose no threat of harm to you or to your developing baby. In addition, many of the anti-nausea medications may have other side effects that are especially undesirable. The good news is that there are a good number of other sorts of treatment options and natural remedies that some women have tried and had success with. One of those treatment options includes acupressure.

Acupressure works by putting pressure on certain locations on the body known as “pressure points.” These pressure points are tied to specific bodily systems, or related to specific conditions. By placing the right amount of pressure on a certain pressure point, it is thought that you can provide relief for any number of ailments. Acupressure has been used for many centuries to help with a variety of conditions, such as chronic pain or headaches. Acupressure has also been used to relieve nausea. Specifically, acupressure has even been used to help with morning sickness.

The pressure point that is related to nausea is located on the inside of the wrist, around an inch and a half from the palm. Obviously, you can’t apply pressure to a pressure point all day long with your finger; you’ve got more important things to do with your hands! The good news is that there are a variety of acupressure wrist bands that are designed specifically to relieve nausea. Some of these may have a watch-band style band, while others may be elastic. They also vary somewhat in how they are designed, but overall the purpose of these acupressure bands is the same: to place pressure on the point that will relieve nausea.

Acupressure bands have been used by people to help with other types of nausea, as well, including motion sickness. While acupressure bands may not work for everyone, they may be worth a try alongside of other natural treatments for morning sickness.
