The first days and weeks of your child’s life can be a wonderful time for you, as a parent. Most of the time, the postpartum period is a time of happiness and joy, as you begin to bond with your new bundle of joy. In addition, many of the ailments that plagued you during pregnancy have probably begun to disappear by this time. For example, while it will take some time for you to lose all of your pregnancy weight, the fact of the matter is that your belly will be less obtrusive and get in the way a lot less pretty much right after birth. Still, the postpartum period is not always perfect. There are several postpartum ailments that you might want to be aware of.
Sore breasts are one of the most common postpartum ailments. Very often, this will occur as a result of engorgement, or from clogged milk ducts. The good news here is that there are a variety of herbal and medicinal remedies to help with this particular postpartum ailment. For example, there are breast compresses, which will often be based on cabbage leaves or even black tea. There are also lotions or creams for postpartum discomfort of the breasts. Generally, these herbal remedies will also have some natural creams and butters, such as cocoa butter and mango butter.
It is also common to have ailments that affect the bottom during the postpartum period. These particular common postpartum ailments can include hemorrhoids, an episiotomy, perineal tearing, or just plain soreness from having a baby pass through the birth canal, it can be uncomfortable for a woman to even sit for more than a few minutes at a time in those first few postpartum days. Here again, there are herbal and natural remedies for these ailments. Some of the herbal remedies for these postpartum ailments can include things like a perineal compress, or herbal lotions or creams designed to remedy postpartum discomforts. These creams might contain ingredients such as shea butter, witch hazel, calendula, yarrow, and St. John’s Wort. There are even bottom sprays that contain some of these herbs that you may be able to use to remedy some of your postpartum discomfort.
