The pregnant woman has at her disposal many different sorts of helpful products and options. While it is true that there are some things that a pregnant woman cannot do, such as take certain medications, there are also sometimes specific things that nature has provided that can help with specific concerns during pregnancy. There are even specific types of essential oils to use during pregnancy that can help to alleviate stress, help with morning sickness, and even make labor a bit easier.

First of all, it is important to know that some essential oils should be avoided during pregnancy. These particular essential oils have been demonstrated to be generally harmful. They would include cotton lavender, wormwood, birch, rue, and wintergreen. Other oils that should always be avoided, pregnant or not, include Almond Bitter, Boldo, Cassia, and Wormseed. These essential oils are generally banned from use anyways, whether or not you are pregnant. There are also some other essential oils that should specifically be avoided during pregnancy. These oils mimic a hormonal reaction, and should be avoided. Essentials oils such as Aniseed, Bay Leaf, Thyme, Tarragon, Juniper, Sagen, Hyssop, Camphor, Rosemary, and Basil fall into this category. Some essential oils, known as abortifacent oils, should be completely avoided during pregnancy. In addition to some of the other ones mentioned, such as Pennyroyal, Rue, Sage, Thuga, Tansy, and Wormwood, Mugwort, Savin, and Sassafras fall into the abortifacent category.

One of the most common essential oils that you can use during pregnancy is ginger root. Essential oils from ginger root are thought to help with morning sickness. Ginger has been used for centuries to alleviate nausea and vomiting. Whether the nausea is due to morning sickness or whether it is from some other condition, such as motion sickness, ginger has been proven effective over and over gain. Using ginger-based essential oils can help with your morning sickness. Other specific essential oils for morning sickness can include things like fennel and peppermint, as well. For some women, essential oils with lime may help too.

There are even essential oils that can help during labor. T use of herbal oils, such as those that contain calendula or chamomile, may especially help to relax a woman during labor. There are also oils that may have calming ingredients, such as essential oils of clary sage or lavender, which may be useful as well. Some essential oils are even used for perineal massage, to try to lessen the necessity of an episiotomy or minimize perineal tearing.
