  Fashionable Baby Bottoms

Share |

There was a day in time when parents didn’t really have to concern themselves too much with fashion until well after the baby stage. Girls made it all the way to six or eight years old before showing the first signs of caring about designer clothes, and boys sometimes made it all the way to adulthood without giving it much thought. At any rate, most kids were teenagers before they started to care about fashion statements.

Times are Changing

Apparently, that just doesn’t hold true anymore. For an extra quarter or so a piece, Huggies will sell you disposable diapers that are designed to look like denim blue jeans. Because, as we all know, every baby needs a new pair of jeans every couple of hours.

Don’t get us wrong. There’s no real problem with putting fashionable diapers on your babies bottom. Where you baby poops really isn’t all that important, and if it makes you feel better to know that your baby’s behind is covered with the latest fashion, then go ahead, by all means.

How Did It Start?

Believe it or not, the trend didn’t start with disposable diapers. In an attempt to keep up with all of the cute cartoon figures that have been showing up on little fannies for years now, several manufacturers of cloth diapers began making cotton diapers with designs and pictures on them. The diapers are typically paired with flushable linings, and are, of course, designed to be washed and reused. Many of them are admittedly very cute.

Of course, the disposable diaper companies aren’t going to allow cloth diapers to gain a market advantage. The fact that cloth diapers give your baby a better chance to avoid diaper rash is something disposable diapers can’t control, but they can definitely control the fashion designs that go on the outside of the diapers.

But, Mom, All the Babies Are Wearing Them

OK, chances are you’re not going to hear that. You certainly won’t hear in until your baby starts talking, unless perhaps you also have a teenager who doesn’t want to be embarrassed by their little brother or sister’s decidedly uncool diapers. So, whether you choose to cover baby’s bottom in the latest designer diapers or go with the old fashioned white kind, you’ll still have something to look forward to when she grows up to be a teenager.
