  Having A Healthy Pregnancy

Share |

Having a healthy pregnancy should be the goal of every expectant mother. By doing what you need to do during pregnancy to have a healthy pregnancy, you are giving your developing baby the best opportunity to grow and develop properly. Having a healthy pregnancy relies on some specific sorts of behaviors, some of which are positive behaviors that you can engage in, while others are negative behaviors that you should avoid.

There are, of course, some things that you should avoid during pregnancy in order to have a healthy pregnancy. First of all, you should avoid smoking to have a healthy pregnancy. Smoking at all during pregnancy increases your risk of having a low birth weight or even a premature baby. If you do smoke, you should quit as soon as possible. This is true for alcohol as well. While having a single drink in early pregnancy probably won’t cause a problem with your baby, regular or binge drinking of alcohol most definitely will cause problems. You should also avoid caffeine, or at least lower your caffeine intake. You should also avoid exposure to environmental hazards, such as lead, pesticides, or high levels of radiation in order to have a healthy pregnancy.

There are other things that you will need to actively do to have a healthy pregnancy. You should make sure that you have regular prenatal visits with your health care provider. You should make sure that you are getting the important nutrients like folic acid, iron, Vitamin A and calcium that are contained in prenatal vitamins. You should speak with your health care provider about any prescription medications you are taking. You will need to eat a balanced diet. You should take control of medical problems like diabetes or high blood pressure, and make sure that you are in charge of them during your pregnancy. You should also make sure to get enough exercise, which has the added benefit of preparing your body for birth.

Your health care provider may have other specific things that you should do, in your individual case, in order to have a healthy pregnancy.
