Herbal Remedies For Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids are not fun for anyone to experience. They itch, they burn, and they cause a general sense of discomfort that can make it hard for the person who suffers from hemorrhoids to think about much of anything else at all. Hemorrhoids are also one of the most common symptoms of pregnancy, as well. This is due to the fact that the changing levels of hormones in a woman’s body can change the way that her body reacts to various foods and conditions. Second, the weight of the growing baby inside the uterus can, by itself, cause hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids can also occur quite frequently when a woman is nursing, although the mechanism for this is not as clear as it is during pregnancy. Fortunately for the pregnant woman or for the woman who is nursing, there are indeed natural remedies for hemorrhoids.

Most of the herbal remedies for hemorrhoids fall into the category of topical treatments. There are also topical treatments that can be natural remedies for hemorrhoids. Witch hazel, which is produced from the bark and the leaves of the Hamamelis virginiana plant, has been used for many years to provide relief for hemorrhoids. In fact, Witch Hazel is one of the most commonly recommended remedies for hemorrhoids, and is even used in some hospitals to help patients who suffer from hemorrhoids. Witch Hazel may be available in a balm, ointment, spray, and even medicated pads. Other herbs that may be used as natural remedies for hemorrhoids might include calendula, yarrow, shea butter and St. John’s wort as well as certain essential oils such as peppermint oil or even lavender oil.

As always, if you are experiencing hemorrhoids that are accompanied by severe bleeding, or that are severely painful, you should speak with your health care provider. The symptoms of hemorrhoids are similar to the symptoms of other conditions, such as an anal fissure, which may require medical attention. In addition, while herbal remedies for hemorrhoids may work for some people, they won’t necessarily work for everyone.
