  Herbs To Soothe Sore Breasts

Sore breasts are one of the most common symptoms of both pregnancy and breastfeeding. Between the changing hormone levels that occur in your body both before and after your baby is born and during breastfeeding, and the actual process of breastfeeding, it is not uncommon at all for a woman to have cracked or sore nipples. In fact, sore breasts are one of the most common reasons that women stop breastfeeding. Fortunately, however, there are ways to soothe your sore breasts without having to turn to artificial and sometimes harmful treatments.

An herbal compress is one of the best ways to soothe sore breasts. For centuries, there have been women that have used cabbage leaves to soothe their sore breasts while breastfeeding and during pregnancy. This really is as simple as it sounds. You simply place cold cabbage leaves or tea bags over your sore breasts, or even inside of your bra. It is no more complex than that. In addition to this sort of remedy, there are also a variety of compresses available that a woman can buy. Some of these rely on herbal ingredients, and can be used warm or cold. Some of these sorts of compresses are more along the lines of an ice pack, and use cold to numb the sore breasts. Regardless of which sort you try, it is likely that a compress can give you some relief for your sore breasts.

There are also creams and lotions that use herbs to soothe sore breasts. There are lotions and creams that use cabbage leaves, black tea, and a variety of herbs such as calendula blossoms, marshmallow root, and plantain. These herbs are especially useful for the woman who has sore breasts due to breastfeeding. These herbal creams and lotions have an advantage over other over the counter solutions for sore breasts in that they generally do not contain lanolin. While it has not been proven for certain, there are some who believe lanolin may be harmful to a woman or to her baby.
