How Can I Bond With My Baby Before He Is Born?

Share |

Most parents, when we think about bonding with our children, think about the activities that take place after our baby is born, as we help our baby to grow and as we nurture our baby along life’s way. What we often fail to realize is that we can actually begin to bond with our baby even before he is born. While research hasn’t yet proven it to be true, it does seem to be that there is some benefit for our baby if we do indeed bond with him before he is born. Even if the benefits to our baby are minimal, the fact still remains that bonding with your baby before he is born can benefit you, and can help to prepare you for bonding after your baby is born. But, how can you bond with your baby before he is born?

There are several things that you can do to bond with your baby before he is born. Even though your baby is still inside the womb, you can introduce your baby to human touch. By touching your belly, and even giving your belly a massage, you do help your baby start to feel some of the sensations that he will experience once he is outside of your womb. Your spouse can also massage your baby while he is still in the womb. This can help your spouse to bond with your baby before he is born, as well.

Another great way to bond with your baby before he is born is through the use of music. It has been demonstrated that music provides a harmonious and calm environment for your baby in the womb. Some studies suggest that, after they are born, babies can even recognize music that they have heard while they were in the womb. This research also shows that babies prefer classical music, and music whose beat comes close to the mother’s heart beat. This is not to say that other music is harmful, or that it will not allow you to bond with your baby before he is born, but rather that certain types of music may be more soothing to your baby than others. There are even specific CDs that include this sort of relaxing music, specifically for the purpose of bonding with your baby before he is born.
