  How Can I Sleep More Soundly During Pregnancy?

When it comes to sleep, pregnancy can be an especially frustrating time. In early pregnancy, any number of things from nausea to anxiety can keep you from sleepign soundly. Later on in pregnancy, as your baby gets bigger and bigger, it can be harder and harder to find a comfortable position in which to sleep. This is especially true if you are used to sleeping on your back. Sleeping on your side, which tends to be the most comfortable position for a pregnant woman, can take some adjustment. On top of all this, the need to pee can keep you up or wake you up, sometimes waking you up several times a night. And, don’t forget backaches, leg cramps, and other aches and pains that interfere with sleep during pregnancy.

To sleep more soundly during pregnancy, there are some things that you can do. For example, to sleep more soundly during the early part of your pregnancy, you can try to get used to sleeping on your side. This will make it easier as your pregnancy progresses. During your pregnancy, you can use pillows to increase your comfort level. You can edge them in between your knees, under your belly, behind your back, or under your head as needed. There are a variety of pregnancy pillows, in wedge-types and in full-body types, that are available. Using the bathroom before bed, and cutting back on caffeine may help you to sleep more soundly during pregnancy as well.

Preparing yourself for sleep can help you to sleep more soundly during pregnancy, as well. Engage in a relaxing in a relaxing activity, such as a warm bath or drinking a warm drink before bed. There are a variety of herbal teas available to the pregnant woman that might help in this way, as well. Some of these teas are specifically designed with the pregnant woman in mind, in that they can help to ease specific aches and pains that a pregnant woman may have, all while helping her to relax as she prepares to go to bed.
