Infant CPR – Where Can I Learn It?

Share |

CPR, which is short for cardiopulmonary resuscitation, is an important method that can be used by any trained person. CPR is useful in helping to save lives, especially when a person is in cardiac distress. CPR is appropriate when a person isn’t moving or is choking ir isn’t breathing due to a fall or to a near drowning, for example, or even due to a heart attack. Infant CPR varies slightly from adult CPR and child CPR, due to the specific anatomical developments that people have at those various stages.

One of the most common sources for learning infant CPR, or any form of CPR for that matter, is the American Red Cross. American Red Cross chapters across the country typically will provide CPR training for either individuals or for groups. If you have a day care, for example, and need to have your entire staff trained in infant CPR, it is possible that you may be able to bring in an American Red Cross CPR trainer to your site in order to teach your staff infant CPR. In addition, the American Red Cross typically will offer training on other sorts of infant-related safety issues, and will also offer first aid training as well. To find out what programs your local American Red Cross chapter offers, you should contact them directly.

There are other organizations that may teach Infant CPR. The American Heart and Lung Association sometimes will offer Infant CPR classes. These are certified, as well, and are, for the most part, identical to the type of training that you would get from the American Red Cross. Some community education programs may offer infant CPR as well. In these instances, it is important to ask if the community education class is taught by a certified instructor from either the American Red Cross or the American Heart and Lung Association. If they are not, you might consider taking your Infant CPR training from another source, even if the cost is higher.
