Omega-3 Fatty Acids And Your Child’s Intelligence

Share |

Omega-3 fatty acids can help your child in a number of ways, including helping with your child’s intelligence. It is extremely important that you get enough Omega-3 fatty acids, not just while you’re pregnant, but while you are nursing as well. In addition to helping your health, Omega-3 Fatty acids play a role in the way that your baby develops, and may be directly related to your child’s intelligence.

One way that Omega-3 fatty acids relate to your child’s intelligence is that they aid in the development of your baby’s neurological system. By helping to develop the neurological system, Omega-3 fatty acids are ultimately contributing greatly to your child’s intelligence.

It isn’t only in the neurological area, however, that Omega-3 fatty acids can help your child. In addition, Omega-3 fatty acids are known to help with the early development of the ocular nerves and with early visual development.

In contrast, when you don’t get enough Omega-3 fatty acids during pregnancy, it is known to inhibit your baby’s development in these areas and in other related areas. In addition, there is some research that suggests that a deficiency in Omega-3 fatty acids can contribute to a woman’s risk of going into preterm labor. Preterm birth creates a number of problems for your baby, in terms of development.

As you can see, it is especially important to your child’s intelligence that you get enough Omega-3 fatty acids during pregnancy and afterward. Fortunately, there are many specific foods that contain Omega-3 fatty acids.  The most abundant natural source of Omega-3 fatty acids is fish. In addition, you can purchase Omega-3 fatty acid supplements, as well.
