Some degree or another of stress is completely normal during pregnancy. In fact, if you didn’t have at least a little bit of stress during pregnancy, there is probably something wrong! It is natural to worry about your baby, to worry about th4e upcoming labor and delivery, and to worry about becoming a parent. Add to this the fact that you often don’t feel 100% physically, and you are bound to have some stress during pregnancy. While too much stress during pregnancy can be a problem, a certain amount of stress should be expected. Learning how to deal with your stress during pregnancy is an important and necessary part of having a healthy pregnancy. Fortunately, there are stress relief techniques that you can use during pregnancy to help deal with your stress.
One of the best stress relief techniques during pregnancy, as well as any other time, is relaxation. Sitting down for a few minutes to clear your head can go a long way toward stress relief. Think about the good things in your life for a few minutes. Take a relaxing bath. Read a good book. Listen to a relaxation CD, or some restful music. Taking a few minutes out of the hustle and bustle of life will greatly reduce your overall stress.
Another great stress relief technique is exercise. While your exercise routine may change some during pregnancy, you generally can still exercise throughout the duration of your pregnancy. During pregnancy, you will avoid strenuous exercise, as well as any exercise or sport that might post a threat of abdominal trauma. In addition to helping to relieve stress, exercise can help prepare your body for the experience of giving birth, as well as prepare your body for weight loss after your baby is born.
If you have what seems to be an unconquerable amount of stress, you might consider speaking with your health care provider. Too much stress during pregnancy can be harmful to both you and to your baby.
