  Treatment For Stretch Marks

Share |

Having stretch marks is one of those things that is completely frustrating to many people. Compounding the frustration of developing stretch marks is the fact that there are relatively few effective treatments for stretch marks. While there are some treatments for stretch marks that are available over the counter, the fact of the matter is that many of these products may not work for every woman, and some of these products may not work at all. There are medical treatments for stretch marks as well, but these are often out of reach for most people, as medical insurance will almost never cover treatment for stretch marks, as it is considered to be a cosmetic procedure. However, it is worth taking a look at the various treatments available for stretch marks.

There are topical lotions and creams that you can purchase over the counter that are designed, primarily, to make stretch marks less visible. Some of these products are most effective when you first develop the stretch marks, when you can still see a good amount of pink, red, or purple color to them. These treatments for stretch marks usually rely on something called retinoids, which are derived from vitamin A. It is thought that retinoids are not an effective treatment for stretch marks once they have already faded. other lotions and creams that are designed for the treatment of stretch marks may be based on ingredients like glycolic acid or L-ascorbic acid. These applications tend to work better as treatment for mature stretch marks.

There are medical treatments for stretch marks. There have been incredible advances in the use of lasers, for example, to reduce or eliminate stretch marks. These sorts of treatments for stretch marks typically involve several visits in which the treatments are undergone. There may be dermatological treatments for stretch marks, as well, including dermabrasion or a chemical peel. Not everyone is a good candidate for every treatment for stretch marks, so be certain to discuss your options fully with your health care provider.
