What Are The Treatment Options For A Low Sperm Count?

There are many treatment options available for women who have fertility issues. From medications such as Clomid to procedures like In Vitro Fertilization, there are many different approaches to female infertility. When it comes to male infertility, however, there are fewer treatment options. There are a variety of reasons for this. First of all, more attention has been paid in the medical community to female fertility issues than male fertility issues, even though roughly half of all couples who experience infertility do so because of a factor in the male. The second reason for this is that there are relatively few types of fertility problems that a man can have when compared with a woman. For men, almost all infertility issues result from a low sperm count, low sperm motility, or abnormal sperm. Of these, a low sperm count is the most common occurrence. Fortunately, there are some treatment options for a low sperm count. Some of the options are medical, while others have more to do with nutrition or environmental factors.

One of the most common treatment options for a low sperm count is to avoid the environmental factors that can cause a low sperm count. These factors include things like drug or alcohol abuse, smoking, and heat. In the first two cases, stopping the drug or alcohol abuse or quitting smoking can often help to resolve a low sperm count. In terms of heat, the fact of the matter is that the testicles tend to produce less sperm when they are too hot. Therefore, keeping the testicles from overheating helps to prevent a low sperm count. This means that the man who is trying to conceive should avoid things like tight underwear, saunas, hot baths, and whirlpools.

Medically speaking, the treatments for a low sperm count tend to be the same as some of the female infertility treatments. Procedures like IVF or Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) often will include a step where they separate out the man’s sperm and use them in the procedure.

Finally, nutritional and dietary supplements may be effective treatment options for a low sperm count. These would include things like ginseng, lycopene, zinc, and Vitamin C, all of which are believed to help with sperm production.
