To understand what the best sexual position to use to get pregnant is, there are a few factors that you need to consider. First, the fact of the matter is that, as long as the sperm make it into the woman’s vagina, it is possible to get pregnant. While some sexual positions may help get the sperm further along toward the cervix, pregnancy can occur from just about any sexual position. As long as the man and the woman are both fertile, and there is nothing wrong with their reproductive organs, any sexual position can lead to pregnancy.
Having said all of that, there are sexual positions that can increase your chance of getting pregnant. These positions tend to deposit the sperm closer to the cervix. It is there that the woman’s cervical mucus will help to protect those sperm from the acidic environment of the vagina, and to help the sperm move on their journey toward the fallopian tubes. Some positions tend to use gravity to their advantage. The missionary or “man on top” position tends to fall into this category.
There are sexual positions that can also decrease your chance of getting pregnant. These positions tend to deposit the sperm further away from the cervix. Gravity also tends to work against getting pregnant in these positions. These include any position where the woman is upright, such as having sex while sitting or standing. The “woman on top” position is another position that tends to deposit the sperm further from the cervix.
Beyond the question of sexual position and getting pregnant, there are some other things that you can do, in terms of sex, to increase your chances. First of all, you should lay down for twenty to thirty minutes after sex with your lower half propped up on a pillow, or even on a conception pillow that is especially designed for that purpose. You should also avoid using personal lubricants during sex if you want to get pregnant, as personal lubricants can sometimes be toxic to sperm. There are a few types of personal lubricants, however, that are designed to help with conception, and these should be fine.
