It seems, at times, that there are way too many options for parents when it comes to products that they can use for their babies. So many of these products are, in many ways, identical to adult products. On the other hand, there are certain products that are designed for babies that really are better for the baby than adult products. While it is true that many adult shampoos are perfectly fine for a baby, there are some things that you should consider when thinking about what kind of shampoo to use for your baby.
First of all, you need to think about whether you want to go the all-natural route for your baby’s shampoo. All-natural baby shampoos are going to have some advantages over adult shampoos as well as other baby shampoos. Many of the other shampoos that are available may contain ingredients that really aren’t the best for our babies. Some shampoos may contain pesticides, or have been exposed to toxic chemicals or fertilizers. Some shampoos may contain medications that may or may not be beneficial to your baby, and some of which will have a variety of side effects. All natural baby bath products avoid these sorts of concerns. Still, if you don’t want to go the all-natural route, you should try to be aware of what ingredients exactly are in the other sorts of shampoos.
Another concern when it comes to thinking about what kind of shampoo you should use for your baby has to do with the idea of “tear free” shampoo. Some shampoos contain a special ingredient that helps keep babies from crying when shampoo gets into their eyes. Very often, the ingredient is an analgesic – a type of medicine that is used to numb the pain centers. Shampoos that claim to be “tear free” will typically use this type of ingredient. Shampoos that don’t claim to be tear free will usually not have an analgesic. An all-natural baby shampoo will generally not have an analgesic, as well.
Ultimately, you need to determine as a parent what the concerns you have about shampoo are, whether they are cost, whether it is natural or not, or whether or not the shampoo will make your baby cry if it gets into his or her eyes.
