Why Is My Face Breaking Out So Badly?

It is not uncommon at all for a woman who is pregnant to suddenly find that her face is breaking out, and sometimes nearly as badly as it did when she was a teenager. In fact, it is estimated that at least half of all pregnant women will experience some amount of acne breakout during pregnancy, at some time or another. A pregnant woman’s face may break out daily. In addition to the concern you might have about your appearance when you break out, there is always the risk of scars from the acne.

As is the case with many of the symptoms of pregnancy, your face is breaking out so badly because of the changes in the levels of hormones in your body. As the levels of hormones in your body increases, the pores of your skin are going to produce more oils. More oily skin can so often lead to acne. In addition to their face breaking out so badly during pregnancy, some women will also experience acne on other parts of their body.

Fortunately, there are some things that you can do to help keep your face from breaking out so badly during pregnancy. While you probably cannot eliminate acne entirely, you should be able to at least minimize the break outs. First of all, make sure that you are washing your face thoroughly between two and three times a day. Make sure that you are using a cleanser that is free from oils or irritating ingredients. After you clean your face, make sure to rinse off any residue of soap that may remain.

In addition to keeping your face cleansed, there are other things you can do to help your face from breaking out so badly. Make sure that you drink enough water, which will keep your skin moisturized. Keep your hands off of those pimples, because touching them can lead to spreading the bacteria on them and creating more pimples. Picking your pimples should be avoided, too, as it can give you scars. Finally, you will want to talk to your health care provider about taking acne medications, as there are some ingredients in acne medications that may cause problems with your pregnancy. These can include tetracycline, salicylic acid, tretinion, and Isotrentinion.
