Pregnancy Plus Omega-3

Directions: Take 3 softgels a day, preferably at mealtimes or before bedtime. Keep out of reach of children.

Omega-3 fatty acids come a number of different forms, but DHA and EPA are the forms most relevant to fetal health. Research shows that EPA is central to supporting the development of young cardiac and circulatory systems. DHA is important to the developing brain and eyes, accumulating in large quantities during fetal development and during the first years of your baby's life.

DHA is a major component of the nervous system and promotes neurological growth, particularly with regard to the eyes and to basic cognitive-intellectual ability. Research studies confirm that a baby born to a mother with high levels of Omega-3 fatty acids in her system will more likely have advanced cognitive faculties and an increased attention span. Studies also suggest that this cognitive "head-start" will have far-reaching, positive implications in your child's future development.

DHA benefits also include the support of enhanced visual ability. One study tested over seventy mothers and their babies from between 4 and 8 months of age. The study tested for visual acuity and learning ability by showing infants pictures and measuring reactions. Results indicated that babies born to mothers with elevated DHA levels had increase visual-learning abilities.

Benefits of Omega-3 fatty acids are not limited to fetal and infant development. For pregnant women and nursing mothers, higher levels of Omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to decrease the risk of some pregnancy complications and reduce the odds of postpartum depression. Omega-3 fatty acids may also decrease the chances of premature delivery.
