The time to conceive is different for each couple and even each pregnancy. Fertell can help any couple who has been trying to conceive that is looking for more information about their fertility. It is an important first step for any couple who has been trying to conceive.
Since about one-third of fertility issues can be attributed to males, another one-third to females and the remaining one-third to both members of a couple, it is crucial to test both partners early in the conception process.
Male and Female Fertility Test
Male Test - Measures semen for its concentration of motile sperm, a key element of male fertility. Motile sperm are sperm that can readily swim to fertilize an egg.
The male fertility test involves producing a semen sample and then following a few simple steps. The male test should be taken at least 2 days (48 hours) after his last ejaculation. If he has not ejaculated within the last 7 days, he should ejaculate and then wait 2 days before producing a sample to perform the test.
Female Test - Indicates ovarian reserve by measuring Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) levels. This test is to be done on day 3 of the woman’s period. The ovarian reserve indicates the age of the ovaries and their ability to respond to FSH in order to produce eggs capable of fertilization.
The female fertility test is an easy-to-use urine dipstick, conducted similarly to pregnancy tests.
What happens once we have our results?
Results within normal range: If the results indicate that your concentration of motile sperm and FSH are within normal levels, then you should continue trying to conceive.
You should contact your physician's office if the female:
-
is under 35 and has been trying for over 12 months
-
is 35 or over and has been trying for over 6 months
-
has had no menstrual discharge or has irregular intervals between periods
For example, you are 33 years old and have been trying for 2 months when you took the Fertell test. You should try to conceive for no more than an additional ten months before contacting your physician if you are still not pregnant.
Results outside the normal range: If the results indicate that your concentration of motile sperm or FSH level are outside normal ranges, then you should consult your physician's office for further discussion.
Who should NOT test with Fertell?
Fertell should not be used by women on birth control or those undergoing assisted reproductive techniques such as IVF or those taking fertility drugs containing FSH. For women who have recently stopped taking oral contraceptives, your cycle may take some time to stabilize. Wait until you have had two normal periods before you use the Fertell female test.
Fertell does not detect all fertility issues. It is an initial screening for key fertility elements.
