The Technical Stuff
Vitex acts on the hypothalamus and pituitary glands by increasing luteinizing hormone (LH) production and mildly inhibiting the release of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). This results in a shift in the ratio of estrogen to progesterone, with a rise in progesterone. The ability of chaste tree berry to raise progesterone levels in the body is an indirect effect, so the herb itself is not a hormone. Vitex is also useful for reducing high prolactin levels, which are commonly associated with luteal phase defect.
How long does it take to notice Vitex effects?
You will notice results around your third or fourth menstrual cycle after you begin taking Vitex. But don’t expect immediate results, it may not have much effect until it is taken for at least 3 months. Remember that Vitex is not a hormone. It’s not the same as taking progesterone and you cannot expect a withdrawal bleed a few days as you would if you were taking progesterone or synthetic progestins.
Suggested Use: 1-2 capsules twice daily. Always start with the lowest dosage first. So begin with 2 capsules daily, then increase dosage to 4 capsules daily if needed. 265 mg Organic Vitex per serving. Each serving is 2 capsules. Contains no fillers, artificial colors, artificial flavors, or preservatives. Vitex works extremely well but can take up to 3 months of continual use before the best results are achieved. Do not take if you are using Clomid, other fertility drugs, or undergoing fertility treatments. Do not use Vitex in conjunction with the birth control pill. It may render it less effective and may result in pregnancy. |
